Report: Russia can appoint son of envoy Ivanov as ALROSA head
MOSCOW, Feb 20 (PRIME) -- The Russian government is considering appointing Sergei Ivanov, senior vice president of Sberbank and son of presidential envoy Sergei Ivanov, as president of uncut diamond giant ALROSA, replacing Andrei Zharkov, Bloomberg reported February 17 citing sources with knowledge of the matter.
Two of the sources said that Zharkov’s views on development of the company differ from the position of government officials. No final decision has been made, a corresponding directive has not been signed, they said.
Zharkov has been the company’s head since 2015 and his contract expires in April 2018.
The agency reported that Ivanov is the only candidate being considered at the moment.
A spokesman for ALROSA declined to comment on the information. “We do not comment on rumors, there have been no official orders…in this regard,” he told PRIME.
